In the Andean Corridor of Northwestern Ecuador lies a biological hotspot known as the Chocó Rainforest. At the southern end of this region, 3,300 hectares have been designated as a protected area known as Bilsa Biological Reserve. Bilsa Biological Reserve is located between Ecuador’s Pacific Coast and the Mache-Chindul Mountain range. One of the essential components in Bilsa’s habitat diversity is its position near the equator at 00°21’33”N, 79°42’02”W.
The Karubian Lab has designated a squared area that has been impacted by habitat loss, fragmentation and degradation. Thirty-four fragments have already been identified within this designated area and two have been determined beyond its boundaries.
